Celebrating its 66th season during 2011-2012, the CCSO opens the final subscription concert with Four Dance Episodes from Rodeo. Rodeo is a ballet scored by popular American composer Aaron Copland and choreographed by Agnes de Mille. Another suite from a great ballet score will be the second selection on the program. The Firebird is a ballet composed by Igor Stravinsky in 1910. The ballet is based on Russian folk tales of the magical glowing bird of the same name that is both a blessing and a curse to its captor. The CCSO will perform The Firebird Suite (1919) that was made popular in the movie Fantasia. Grammy nominated pianist Stephen Hough joins the orchestra in the second half performing Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2. This piece is one of Rachmaninoff's enduringly popular pieces, and establishes his fame as a concerto composer. The second theme of the final movement provides the basis for Frank Sinatra's 1945 "Full Moon and Empty Arms." Single ticket may be purchased by calling the Symphony office at 883-NOTE (6683) or toll-free at 877-286-6683. Single concert tickets start at $20 per seat.
