All are invited and welcome to this free forum that combines the traditional forum Q&A of hard-hitting, vital questions with non-traditonal live music, refreshments, multimedia, and a meet & greet with the candidates both before and after.

You will be able to text message your questions to the moderators from the audience to ask the candidates right then and there.

There will also be refreshments (leaded and unleaded) and a mixer afterwards.

First things first: What is Quality of Life? It's a popular term that seems to mean something unique for everyone. When we asked our planning committee to individually answer this question, all of the answers were different ranging from having 'things to do' where you live to 'feeling safe' where you live. The common indicators about a city's 'Quality of Life' are: Quality of Education, Employment, Environment, Health, Income, Infrastructure, Public Safety, Recreation, and Shelter. We feel that a community's Quality of Life is the combined measurement of these criteria.

During the 2007 City Council election, a group of young Corpus Christi voters developed a platform to create awareness of the issues affecting Corpus Christi; these issues included those that directly impact the “Quality of Life” of the everyday citizen. With this concept, the QoL forum was born to challenge the thoughts, ideals, characteristics, personalities, and knowledge of those wanting to become the next community trustee and representative for all Corpus Christi citizens. The main principle of the forum was to bring attention to the voices of voters who are more interested in the day to day living and working environments. They discussed topics such as, 'Brain-Drain', entertainment and family venues, tourism, incentives for local business owners, and arts and culture. The QoL forum allowed voters to learn the personalities of the candidates without getting “canned” answers. The concept and purpose was created…and mastered.

Utilizing new media marketing, the introduction of never-before-seen forum components (live music, live question texting to the forum moderators, questions targeting real QoL issues, etc.) and simple word of mouth, they succeeded with the largest assembly of candidates during the 2007 election cycle before a standing-room-only audience. The candidates were unanimous in their praise of the event:

"I've been to over 20 candidates forums [during this election cycle], and this was, by far, the best one," said City Councilman, then candidate, Mike Hummell during his closing remarks.

During one of his times at the microphone, City Councilman and candidate for re-elecion Jerry Garcia bellowed, "This forum kicks ASS!"

This election, the QoL Candidates Forum is back in a larger venue hoping to get the candidates' platforms in front of a passionate group of diverse Corpus Christi voters.

The Forum is free and open to everyone--please spread the word and bring your friends. It will be a night to remember.
